It’s one of the most common questions asked of newspaper editors: how do I get a story in the paper?
The answer is simple — and complicated.
We depend on the public to let us know about local events and happenings, from fundraising walks to neighborhood food drives.
We encourage folks to let us know about these events. The best avenue is via e-mail (wswietek@bgdailynews); fax (270-783-3237) or regular mail (813 College St., PO Box 90012, Bowling Green, Ky. 42102) will also work.
The complicated part comes next. While we try to cover as much as possible, it’s of course impossible to get to every event in the community. A quick look at the calendars published each week in the Daily News will quickly reveal that there are literally dozens of events happening every day in the region. Deciding on what we can and will cover is a major part of our daily routine.
There are three things, however, that you can do to help us spread the word about your event: let us know about your event as early as possible (not on the day of the event); make sure to include the basics (what, where, when and why); and don’t forget contact information (a phone number and/or an e-mail address of someone who can give us more information).
Following those three steps will help us help you spread the word.
