The call this morning was not unusual.
My daughter was arrested, the caller said, and I’m asking the paper to keep her name out of the police news.
The answer is the same for all the folks (and there are usually a few each month) who make similar requests: sorry, but we can’t make exceptions.
It’s a simple matter of fairness. We obviously would not be doing our job in a fair manner if we listed some arrests, but kept quiet about the arrests of our neighbors, friends or even pleading callers. (We do limit the arrests reported to felonies, except in extraordinary circumstances).
The bottom line is there is only way to keep your name out of the police news — avoid getting arrested for a felony.
